Our charity for 2009-2010 season

Our charity for 2009/10 is the Beatson Oncology Centre.  A letter from the Beatson can be found here.

The Beatson Oncology Centre is the lead centre for the delivery of non-surgical cancer care for the West of Scotland. It serves a population of 2.6m, and has clinical links with 16 hospitals in five surrounding health board areas.

The Centre itself is based on three sites in the city of Glasgow - at the Western Infirmary and Gartnavel General Hospital and the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. By 2007, the BOC will be housed in one state-of-the-art £100m unit being built on the Gartnavel site.

An internationally-renowned teaching centre, the BOC incorporates the academic units of Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Palliative Care. The University of Glasgow is also preparing to re-appoint the Chair of Clinical Oncology, which will further enhance research within the treatment centre.

The Beatson is Scotland’s largest cancer centre, and the second-largest in the UK. As a result, the workload is varied - each year, the Beatson team sees over 8,000 new patients, and more than 15,000 courses of chemotherapy and 6,500 courses of radiotherapy are administered. Waiting times for radical treatment are usually among the lowest in the UK.

The Beatson will benefit from our performances of Beauty & The Beast and collectors will be on hand before each performance.  Please give generously!
